Parents, students appeal to ASUU to end strike

As the indefinite strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities entered its second week on Monday, parents and students have appealed to the union to call it off. Some of the parents and students who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja called on the striking lecturers to embrace dialogue in the interest of the nation. Mrs Josephine Taiwo, a businesswoman, and mother of three undergraduates urged ASUU to suspend the strike considering its possible negative effects on both students and parents. more Source: PNG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the federal government is yet to begin any dialogue with the union over the ongoing strike. The national president of the union, Biodun Ogunyemi, said this in a phone interview with PREMIUM TIMES Sunday evening. The union embarked on strike one week ago over the poor funding of Nigerian universities and an alleged plan by the federal government to increase student’s fees and introduce an education bank. The union also accuses the federal government of not implementing a 2017 agreement. More Source PT

Education, labour ministries yet to reply our strike letters – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said that the letters of notification of strike action, which it wrote to the Ministries of Education and Labour and Employment, have not been replied by either ministry since Monday, November 5, when it resumed its strike. The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed this while speaking with our correspondent on Monday, saying the union believed that while the Federal Government “was still warming up as usual,” the ruling class did not want quality education for the children of the poor. m ore Source:  png

LASU COMMENCES RELEASE OF CERTIFICATES/COLLECTION EXERCISE.

The release of certificates/collection exercise commenced as planned by the Certificate Unit of the University Registry and approved by the University Management yesterday - Monday, 12th November, 2018 at the Lagos State University Auditorium, Ojo, Lagos. The exercise will be on till Tuesday, 1st January, 2019, after which an approved penalty fee will be paid by graduates who fail to come for their certificates withi n the stipulated period. Only those whose names are released online (on the University Website :  www.lasu.edu.ng ), but have not collected the certificates are affected. About Thirty - Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty - Two (32, 522) certificates are ready for collection. According to the Principal Assistant Registrar/Head, Certificate Unit; Mr. Olabode Akinrinmade " I want to advise all Graduates of the University to come forward to pick their certificates and also like to debunk the claim by some members of the public that Lagos State University is not
